Chaired by Joanne McDonnell, Senior Nurse for Mental Health and Learning Disabilities at NHS England this conference through national updates, and practical case studies will look at ensuring safe and effective nurse staffing levels and skill mix inpatient mental health settings– how to ensure right people, with the right skills, are in the right place at the right time.

The conference will open with a national update on implementing the new NHS England Safe Staffing Framework for Mental Health Wards which was announced by NHS England on 30th June 2015. The focus of the framework is on inpatient staffing, but work is underway on a similar guide for community mental health services. It will feed into the work of the Mental Health Taskforce on establishing the right balance of staff in the many settings treating those with mental illness which is expected to publish at the end of the year.
